Kahlua

Source: my recipe from the 80's


Bring 4 c. water to a boil
Remove 1/2 c. and add 4 heaping Tbsp. of Yuban Instant Coffee (no decaf)
In remaining 3 1/2 c. boiling water mix in:
4 c. white sugar
Boil 5 min. Cool to lukewarm. Mix in coffee.
Add: 1 whole vanilla bean, broken in 1/2 in. pieces
1/5 of vodka at least 80 proof.
Pour into a gallon jug. Let set 2 weeks in a dark cool place. Enjoy.
I store mine in my closet.

I use this to make my cake with.  In taste tests, our friends could not tell which was homemade and which was store-bought.
