Sweet And Sour Sausage Balls

Submitted by: Lillian, FL
Source: Long ago, unknown source

4 lbs. bulk sausage
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
3 cups catsup
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white wine vinegar
1/2 cup soy sauce

Mix sausage, eggs and bread crumbs; shape into small (1 1/2-inch) balls; sauté until brown and drain.* Combine catsup, brown sugar, vinegar and soy sauce. Pour over sausage balls in a large pan and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve hot.

* I put any meatballs or sausage balls on broiler pans and bake in the oven at 350º for 15 minutes to drain fat and to keep them nice and round. They brown nicely.

To make ahead: prepare, refrigerate or freeze in sauce. Reheat in oven at 350º for 25 to 30 minutes, longer if frozen.

Makes 150

I've made these a few times for family gatherings; especially when we used to have our annual "theme" parties every July.
